Quiting before two weeks and asked to pay for breach of contract

I have worked for the consulting company
as an employee. My conract stated that if I leave my employer without giving two weeks notice, he may keep up two weeks of my pay. Due to unforseen circumstances, I could not give him two weeks notice, and left for better opportunity. First he refused to pay me for the last two weeks, but after Department of labor involvment, he paid.
Now he threatens me with lawsuit, asking that I pay him back, because of clause in the contract. Does he has a good chances in winning lawsuit against me in Cook County, in Illinois? I understand that we have employment at will, and this additional clause in the contract seems illigal. Please advise.
Thanks

Quitting without notice

You're not completely employment at will, if you have a contract with a two week notice requirement. It depends on exactly how the contract is worded, but I think it is possible that the contract could be enforced by the employer.
