Legal action for a boss who violated a confidential conversation and has now created a very host

I am in management... A department head at a retirement village and I had an employee come to me with the concern / complaint regarding 2 other department heads... 1 of these is my counter-part at work and I have to share a office with her... I followed the chain of command and went to my boss and had a closed-door confidential meeting with her. I did not give her the name of the employee that came to me with their concerns due to the fact they came to me in confidence and I would not betray that (I'm actually professional). My boss who I had pr thought I had a closed door confidential meeting with proceeded to turned around and told the 2 dept heads that this was about and used my name & my name only.... she made it appear to them that I was the one filing the complaint/voicing my concerns... She conveniently left out the fact that the whole reason this meeting took place was because another employee had came to me with a complaint/concern. And made it appear to the other two department heads that I was complaining about them and the only thing I had said was the whole situation makes me uncomfortable and I stand by that... It does...1- of these department heads is married the other is not...and something inappropriate APPEARS to be going on... I am not saying it is... I am saying perception because People talk/gossip... So by handling it the way she did the two employees are now extremely angry at me and I was then verbally attacked by one of these said employees in the hallway of my work where everyone could hear & see... And I get why they're angry but I have done nothing wrong and I do not deserve to be confronted like that nor do I deserve to be cussed at the way I was... at this point I just don't even want to return to work because of the high amount of stress it has caused and the effects this whole situation is having on my blood pressure and overall health & well-being.... I'm ABSOLUTELY terrified to go to HR because HR isn't going to fire my boss over this and so intern all that is going to do is make my life even more living hell that SHE created.... Are there ANY laws that protect me?? And is there any legal actions I can take?? I'm a very good employee and I don't feel that I deserve this in anyway and I feel that it was completely inappropriate of my boss to use my name when I wasn't even the one formally with the complaint/concern... so although I followed proper chain of command I'm going to be the one that suffers... that can't be right is it?? And if I didn't truly love my job I would just wash my hands of it and find another one but I do love my job and my residence depend on me and I don't want to let them down because of one persons lack of professionalism... Now this has nothing to do directly with my question but we have an extremely high turnover because nobody wants to deal with this boss that I am referring to now I can't prove but that's why we have a high turnover but I'm just throwing it out there... I do have a handful of employees at will state what a horrible person she is to work for .... And Lastly... I am activities director and I have a copartner one of the people that is mentioned above well I am losing my hours because the said two people are going out on scheduled outings with a residents which I should be going on since I am also the activities director..... Why the maintenance man is going with the other activities director on Resident outings is beyond me but as an adult Ive just bit my tongue and let them go over the last few months but now since All of this is coming to head... I feel that it should also be mentioned... I also did bring this to the attention of my boss which nothing was done about it and ever since then I've just gone about doing my own business and my job... since I am an adult and I'm also professional.... I would greatly appreciate any words of wisdom or Direction you could give me right now I am at a complete loss and all's I can really do is sit here and cry because I've done nothing wrong yet I'm the one that's going to pay for others poor Behavior and I don't find that fair at all... PLAESE HELP!!! And I am prepared for there may be nothing I can do except bite my tongue and either resign or continue to walk into a very hostile uncomfortable work environment that's been caused by my boss and her violation of confidentiality
