Leave of Absense and Worker's Comp

My husband got injured at work. His assistant manager was there when it happened. The next day when the store manager came in they told him about it. He told my husband that he should not come in the next day and that he had to file a leave of absence. He also told my husband that because he doesn't think that the store was responsible that he shouldn't file a workers comp claim because they wouldn't pay. Can his employer force him to take a leave of absence or tell him not to file a workers comp claim?
