Is it my responsibility to check with my supervisor if I'm working overtime?

There is overtime every day at my work and sometimes I'm exhausted, but she gets angry when I leave on time even though she never tells me to stay. Can she discipline me for this? She has stated that it is my responsibility to ask her if I'm staying, but I feel that's a violation of my rights as an employee. Is it my responsibility?
