Is an NCA embedded in an offer agreement valid if I change my mind before starting the job?

I accepted a job offer, which included an embedded NCA that I signed. However, I've since changed my mind and will not be starting the position because it's far away from our house and we're worried about the daily logistics in terms of our young kids. I want to find a closer company with more flexibility.

The job I accepted starts in late Jan, so I haven't been onboarded yet, the company has made no investment in me and I have no means of hurting their business, so is the NCA still valid? I'm hoping I can legally back out of the agreement without penalty because I never actually worked for the company or gained any knowledge of their business.
