In AZ can an employer require an independent contractor sign a non compete without an expiration

I have been a pet groomer for over 30+years always working as an employee where we filed the standard w-2 tax papers. This year I began helping a friend who recently opened her own grooming shop and was growing so fast she needed help. She does not use w-2 as her tax preference but instead considers her employees as she puts it "independent contractors"and wants a w-9 filled out. Along with this she is requiring a non compete form as well. The form she wants me to sign does not state a specific time period of enforcement it just states that I cannot work at or operate a grooming facility within 15 miles if I quit or am terminated. Is this enforceable? As for the legality of he employees being an independent contractor I truly know nothing about this except what other groomers have told me and it doesn't appear that her employees are really independent contractors. Yes we own our own tools but we use her equipment and she makes all the appointments and we have set hours and we follow her rules. So are we truly independent contractors or is she trying to just get out of paying taxes and social security. Please help. I have refused to sign the paperwork she wants and therefore she has stopped booking me dogs to groom. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any advice you can give me.
Sincerely,
A passionate dog groomer.
