If you work for two separate agency one agency loses a client and wants you to take the client on can they get you for non-compete when the client wasn't the first workplace it belong to the second

I was working for an agency for two years my daughter got her own agency and I was working for her part time my daughter lost her client and the client's family asked me and another lady if we would take the family on we got our license and we did that so now BrightStar is trying to tell us that they're going to sue us because we took a client away from them which we did not we took the client from my daughter so I don't know if they can really do this or what that's where my question is what do I do now
