IS THIS DEFAMATION?

I am a receptionist. The new clinical director stated that I was "overwhelmed with billing issues when the biller was gone and that I had to go get help from another employee because I 'could not' handle it." This was told to the HR. The statement is false. I never was overwhelmed nor did I seek help from the employee she refereed to. Is this considered defamation?
