I owe repayment of a bonus. The contract didn't specify repayment terms. Can they impose timeframe

I received a combined sign-on /relocation bonus, but resigned after 8 months. The contract stated I must pay it back if I did not complete 2 years, but did not stipulate a payback timeframe. I am offering a monthly payment, but the company hired to collect the bonus states I must pay it back within 3 years as that is their longest contract for repayment. I am disputing their imposing of this timeframe.
Can they legally impose the timeframe of repayment if the contract did not stipulate repayment terms?
Can they obtain a judgement against me without my participation or knowledge that they are pursuing legal action?
Can they garnish my wages without prior notification?
The contract was signed in TX and I now live in AZ.
