I made a mistake at work and the employer made me pay 181dollars then wrote me up

We were slammed as usual and I was working when two rotors were brought in . I returned the wrong thing on the ticket by accident and the manager had me pay the diffrence. Amounting in 181 dollars that's more than an entire days pay. Is this legal ? It can't possibly be ? If it's not can they fire me?
