If my job labels a business trip as "essential", can they fire me if I fall ill on or before a trip? Most of these trips have never been deemed essential before now. I have been functioning professionally here for 18 years. Maybe they are doing everything legally, but do I have any recourse whatsoever to protect my job of 18 years in the event my chronic illness rears its ugly head at the wrong time?
