How does leaving a company because of rumors of termination affect a non-compete agreement?

My non-compete agreement was not funded. Nor was there any agreements of severance pay if terminated.
I heard from my immediate supervisor that they (higher management) had grounds for terminating me and that they (higher management) were actually persuing it through the HR dept. Other employees verified this indicating they had been approached by others on the behalf of HR. Therefore I went to a competitor who offered me a job which I accepted. It was determined, or decided, that company policy did not support grounds for termination as they thought.
Does this/would this have any effect on my agreement.
