Hello! I signed a non compete agreement, but have since left the company. Since I've signed the agreement their trade name registration lapsed. Does that mean that my non compete is no longer valid?

My previous employer is suing me, because I violated my non compete agreement. It appears that their trade name registration (which is required for businesses in the state of Maryland) lapsed the year after I signed it. I don't believe they've reregistered since. Does that mean that my agreement is no longer valid, since the business name used in the agreement isn't even an actually legal business?
