Follow up visits covered under FMLA ?

In August I had surgery and was off work for 4 weeks to have a hernia repaired and two benign growths removed from my abdomen. I developed infection at one of the sites, which required several follow up visits. My doctor completed the appropriate FMLA paperwork for intermittant leave. My employer has denied to cover these follow up visits under FMLA stating that "follow up doctor's visits are not covered under FMLA. How can this be? The necessity for follow up was due to the infection of the surgery sites!

Should be Covered

These follow up visits should be covered by the FMLA -- we would be happy to help out if you are not given leave.
