Do I have to sing a non-compete if I did not know it was required and did not know about it?

I started my job 5 months ago and in my interview I was never told I had to sign a non-compete, but today my boss handed me on and told me that my job is contingent on it and all employees have to sign one. Do I have to sign this? Had I known I would never have taken the job.
