Do I have a case for Wrongful demotion?
I have been employed with my organization for 10 years. The last 4 years I have spent in a executive managerial position with a Director's title. The company was purchased 2 years ago by a larger company.
Just recently my boss decided that he now felt that our job description was more in line with similar managerial positions within the organization, but not at the Director Level. This is a demotion in title as well as a 5% cut in annual bonus.
I know that an organization has the right to realign structure and salary, but my argument is that there is a very similar position by description within my organization which is not being changed from the Director level to managerial position. We were told that this is a company in initiative , but yet this other position is not being changed nor is the compensation. In addition we were originally told about the proposed change a month and a half ago, but they still have not finalized our Job title, or comp plan. There has been multiple conversations with management and HR, but we still do not have resolve either way. I do not want it to be assumed that I am accepting of these changes as an "at will employee", but the company is dragging their feet in making their decision.
Any insight is appreciated.
