Can my former employer hold me to the noncompete I signed?

The previous employer is an indirect Sprint dealer in Lapeer, MI and the noncompete stated that we could not work for wireless for a period of 2 years. It did not stipulate a geographic range or position. It just said no wireless for 2 years. I was terminated in January of 2012, hired back in July at their corporate office in Flint and then laid off 3 days later. I now work for an indirect AT&T dealer in Lapeer, across the street from the store I used to work at. I started in January so it was 6 months after I went back for 3 days and a year after I was terminated. My previous employer is threatening to sue me unless I work in my new companies Oxford location. Even if I do that he is saying that he still may hold me to the non-compete. I have no access to legal documents or former customers information. The first time they fired me and the second time they laid me off. They have since hired multiple people.
