Can an employer force you to work when you're unavailable and make you stay past your scheduled time

A student in the state of Minnesota is being made to work past their scheduled time and is being scheduled for hours they have made it clear they can't work. It's become so much of an issue that it's affecting their school and mental health. They've tried talking to their employer for months and they keep on telling them to remind them the next week. They won't change anything. I can't find any laws that protect from this. Are there any resources for this kind of thing? What options does this person have?
