Can an employer cut my salary for time off?

I am normally a salaried employee; I do not get overtime pay, and I am paid the same wage every week regardless of hours worked. I told my boss I would not be in the building for a couple days next month due to another obligation, and he told the payroll secretary to cut part of my pay from that week as "unpaid time off."

Can my boss cut down my salary for just one week due to a couple days off (I will be working the rest of the week)? If this is not legal, as I suspect it isn't, can I get a direct source for the published law on this topic so I can cite it? Thank you.
