Can a temp agency and client lie to entice me to take a position?

I was unemployed. I answered an ad for a temp position. I went for interviews and asked if I could get hired as a result of this position. The agency and the client told me yes. The client answered yes twice. THis was never apossibilty. I missed out on a possible great job with the same company and had to file bankruptcy because they left me with no health insurance. I could have continued my old insurance on Cobra but couldn't afford it because I took this job and was not collecting UI.
Thank you
