Can a non competition agreement be enforced if signed in the USA but I will work in Europe?

I gave in April my company notice of my resignation effective end of August. My company then told me that I get paid two more weeks and they enforce my non-competition until end of August. Until the end of August they pay me 50% of my salary but no health insurance.
I worked for a sportshoe company and in Europe I will work for a brown shoe company. Not really direct competitors.

Is this legal?
