2 week notice given: Released early

I gave my 2 week notice on the 18th of Dec with january 1st being my last day, and to my surprise, my last day was 5 days following my notice. It was brough to my attention that they let me go early so that they did not have to pay me holiday pay. Ok, fine...I understand what an at will employee is. HOWEVER, my question is regarding the payrule of payment of my final wages. We are always 2 weeks behind in payment of wages and rule states that if I quit, that payment is due on the next payday. But if they let me go early, shouldnt the payment of final wages revert to the law of paying me within 24 hours (since payroll dept is out of state)??
