I received an email stating I was going to get a retention bonus upon project completion or being released from the project in good standing. I was fired because I was sick and only sent a text message to my boss and didn't call him. The company handbook

The Texas workforce commission concluded that u was fired due to something beyond my control (being sick) and not fired for poor performance on the job so they are letting me have unemployment. It's just seems like since the company is in the wrong that I should get my retention bonus. Should I go to the labor board about this?
