Hello, I am a full time regular employee at a privately held tech company in the San Francisco Bay Area. In my offer letter, there are provisions for a sabbatical that as of today has been rescinded. The reason stated is that this is a cost cutting measure to prepare for an IPO. When I interviewed, the pitch to me was that the company is private and as such, does not have the constraints of shareholders. I was also assured that the benefits package was designed to be competitive in this job market and again, I have the sabbatical in writing in my offer. I see no statement speaking to at - will conditions. Can a company rescind a written benefit in a job offer in California?
